Season's Greetings!
Thank you for being part of the VAACC family. By grace, we are all living healthy and peaceful lives, amidst the multiple viruses, but there are families around our region and the Commonwealth living in dire situations, especially the children who may not get a special gift to put smiles on their faces. Therefore, we decided to bless others by giving unwrapped toys to the Marines Toys Tots Foundation drive. Every small act of kindness amplifies the true meaning of the season - love and sharing. As we prepare for the Thanksgiving holidays, please, let us be filled with the attitude of gratitude. I am grateful for being alive to enjoy another day and give the gift of a smile to someone who just passed my way. I honestly believe we can accomplish all we want in life when we give something of ourselves to others. Through this powerful energy of giving, the universe always reciprocates because you gave from the heart.
A year ago, we, like so many organizations, faced uncertainty and were financially impacted due to the pandemic. But, with perseverance and determination, we kept the spirit and passion of our cause alive. VAACC Board Members creatively sewed face masks and participated in a virtual Giving Tuesday fundraiser to purchase additional PPEs for our marginalized communities. We braved the elements to distribute them to healthcare facilities, a senior center, the homeless and a church feeding station for local youths. During these activities, two anonymous quotes helped to keep our momentum going: “You cannot do a kindness too soon because you never know how soon it will be too late,” and, “What you make happen for others, the universe makes happen for you.” Today, we are incredibly grateful for the gifts that continue to come in through memberships, sponsors, donors, grants, and state-wide organizations. These gifts of love have impacted our work. In return, our virtual six-part Artists Masterpiece series is our gift to the Hampton Roads community and beyond. Our first two Artists' series received rave reviews, but the third will have you rocking to the AFROFUTURISM: Holiday Music Culture of Maestro Dunn Pearson, affectionately known as "Black Beethoven". This issue of our newsletter gives gratitude to VAACC's newest donors and members. You will also enjoy our spotlight on a successful, black-owned business nurtured by love from Fredericksburg, Va. Together we can make this a memorable Thanksgiving by spreading the joy of giving. Dr. Amelia Ross-Hammond Founder and Chairman |
